10/2/14 V-Day

February 14th is the most loved and hated day of the year. I can see both sides of this speculative day and I am sad to say I do not have a special someone this Valentine’s Day – I mean I thought I would, but sadly that didn’t work out – however that isn’t the point.

This post isn’t about crying over the fact I do not have a boyfriend on Valentine’s Day though – it’s about why we have the day in the first place. I’m not sure if you know the historic reason why V-Day is celebrated, so go I will give a brief wikipedia summary:
The most common heard theory behind Valentine’s Day is that a man named Valentine was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire. He died on February 14 and to celebrate the romantic gestures he performed, people dedicated that date to love in his name.

As I am a hopeless romantic at heart, I can’t help but love the day even when I’m forever alone in the boyfriend department. I mean love can be expressed in many ways whether it is romantic love between partners, friendship, family, etc. So even if you are single and feeling low, remember you can always count on your friends to spend the day reminiscing your loved friendship.  If you just really hate Valentine’s Day, be ironic or iconic.

Ironic meaning either watching horror movies to forget the lovey dovey crap that’s going on that day; or buy yourself flowers and chocolate and remind yourself like Lana Del Rey does, that you’re just your own soul mate. Iconic then meaning go out with your friends and make a statement! Whether that is finding another single to seduce with your hot blazing persona, or strutting your sexy single ass and having a good time with your best friends.

Either way, don’t spend the day drowning in your sorrows if that’s the case – nobody loves a party pooper. Reminisce in the moment and enjoy the day for whatever floats your boat in what I suggested above. Believe me, you will have a way better day if you get your head out of the sand and enjoy the sun. If you do have a special someone to spend the day with though, make sure to tell them how much they mean to you (not saying you shouldn’t do that anyway), but the opportunity is there! Make the most of it.
